CHRISTMAS COLLECTION as a GLOBAL GIFT
At Christmas time, so special for children & families here in Australia, it’s appropriate that we take the opportunity to share our Christmas with children & families in far less privileged circumstances. Your parish may choose to support this through a Christmas collection for CARITAS GLOBAL GIFT – bringing the gifts of water, food and sustainable agriculture – to mothers and families around the world.
Gifts can also be ordered online at www.caritas.org.au/globalgifts or by phoning 1800 024 413. Make sure you order before 12th Dec to ensure they reach you before Christmas.
Suggested Bulletin Notices (short or longer versions) for 2nd/3rd Dec & 9th/10th Dec

Global Gifts 2019 focuses on mothers like Sileap in Cambodia. She and her husband, Simoen, worked hard growing rice and raising chickens to provide for their children and build a better future but floods, droughts and animal diseases laid waste their efforts and they struggled to feed their children. This Christmas, you can be an angel to help lift families like Sileap’s out of poverty. The light you bring… Sileap joined the Sustainable Change with Dignity Program. With training in sustainable farming techniques and how to raise and protect chickens from diseases, Sileap now runs a successful hatchery and earns enough to feed and support her children. Her community also had disaster risk reduction training which is helping them cope with floods and droughts. Purchase gifts online at www.caritas.org.au/globalgifts or phone 1800 024 413
Be an angel this Christmas
You can help lift families out of poverty
In vulnerable communities across the world, women are fighting poverty to protect their children.
When Sileap gave birth to her daughter, her family was struggling. Floods, droughts and animal diseases laid waste their efforts to support their children, and drastically reduced their income. The family was in debt and lacked proper nutrition, sanitation and hygiene.
This Christmas, you can be an angel to a family like Sileap’s.
The light you bring
Thanks to angels like you, Sileap joined the Caritas-supported Sustainable Change with Dignity Program, which empowers the poorest and most vulnerable people to live with dignity, free from hunger and with real hope for their children’s future.
Sileap was able to train in advanced farming and hatchery techniques. Now, she runs a successful hatchery, and earns enough to feed and support her children. She and her husband also earn a good income from their rice and vegetable farm, and have plans to expand.
Sileap has gained technical knowledge in chicken raising. Now, she feels confident to expand her activities.
Before joining the Caritas program, my family’s situation was difficult. Now we have enough food. My children have enough nutrition and proper clothes” – Sileap
This Christmas, you can be an angel and walk with mothers like Sileap.
As a mother watches over her children, who watches over her?
Sileap and her children now have a much brighter future. But sadly, there are so many mothers like Sileap whose families are facing poverty. These mothers need angels to walk with them, helping light their way forward..
This Christmas, you can be that angel.
Your donation will go towards sustainable development programs that support families fighting extreme poverty, like the one Sileap joined in rural Cambodia.
