13th May 2017 is World Fair Trade Day, a worldwide celebration of fair trade, which helps fight poverty and exploitation by addressing issues of injustice or power imbalance in the supply chain of many products. On 13th May, events will be held around the world to celebrate the positive impact of fair trade, and to educate and encourage people to buy fair trade.
The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) is a global network of organisations representing the fair trade supply chain. This World Fair Trade Day they are encouraging “agents for change”, such as those working in fair trade or consumers who support fair trade products, to post a human chain selfie promoting fair trade on social media. For more information on the Agents for Change campaign, or the WFTO, head to wfto.com/events/world-fair-trade-day-2017.
The World Fairtrade Challenge 2017
Fairtrade Australia is encouraging all fair trade supporters to take part in the World Fairtrade Challenge from 12-14 May 2017, as an opportunity to promote fair trade products to your friends and family and have a conversation about the importance of fair trade.
Here’s how the challenge works:
In the last five years, sales of Fairtrade products in Australia have grown by a whopping 70 percent! This almost doubled the support to producers. Now that’s something to celebrate!
From 12-14 May 2017, join the World Fairtrade Challenge and help create the biggest Fairtrade celebration the world has ever seen! Celebration events can be anything from having a Fairtrade cuppa with a friend, to hosting a party using Fairtrade products and talking about why Fairtrade matters. It’s as easy as one, two, three.
1. Register your celebration
2. Order your event host kit or download your celebrations materials
3. Share your celebration pics on social media using #FairtradeChallenge
