The 2016 Season of Creation has just come to an end, finishing with the Feast of St Francis on 4th October. For information about the month-long focus on Creation and care of our common home, head to the Season of Creation website.
The Season of Creation began on September 1st, the World Day of Prayer for Creation. In his message for World Day of Prayer for Creation, “Show Mercy to Our Common Home,” Pope Francis declared a new, 8th work of mercy, to be added to the existing seven Spiritual and Corporal works of mercy:
SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY – (8) Care for Our Common Home calls for a “grateful contemplation of God’s world” (LS # 214) which “allows us to discover in each thing a teaching God wishes to hand to us” (ibid # 85).
CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY – (8) Care for Our Common Home requires “simple daily gestures which break with the logic of violence, exploitation and selfishness” and “makes itself felt in every action that seeks to build a better world” (ibid # 230-31).
