3rd October 2016 is World Habitat Day, and the focus for 2016 is house affordability for all, with the theme: “Housing at the Centre.”
The United Nations is encouraging governments and leaders around the world to put “housing at the centre” and to remember the need for affordable housing for all people in urban areas, towns and cities. According the UN, “around one quarter of the world’s urban population continues to live in slums and informal settlements.”
World Habitat Day marks the beginning of Urban October, which continues throughout October, ending on 31 October with World Cities Day with the theme Inclusive Cities, Shared Development. You can read the Urban October guidelines here.
During this time, from 17th October to 20th October this year, Quito, Ecuador will be hosting Habitat III, the united Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development.
