Five Leaf Eco-Awards | Ecumenical environmental change program for religious organisations

The Five Leaf Eco-Awards can help your parish answer God’s call to care for creation

If you are looking for a way to encourage your parish community to answer the call to action in Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, the Five Leaf Eco-Awards may be a way to inspire and reward your parish for caring for creation.

The Five Leaf Eco-Awards are designed for churches and other religious organisations, and encourage holistic action for the environment in five main areas: buildings, worship, congregation, outreach and community leadership. Awards are presented to churches for achieving particular milestones towards becoming “more sustainable in response to God’s call to care for creation.”

In order to find out how close your parish or other religious community is to earning a Basic Certificate (the first award), a survey can be undertaken that both gauges what your church has so far achieved, and offers suggestions for what more it could be doing.

To take the survey and start working towards achieving the first award for your parish, head to www.surveymonkey.com/r/2NCKCYY

To find out more about what Eco-Awards are on offer and how your church can work towards them, head to https://fiveleafecoawards.org. You’ll also be able to see which other religious organisations and groups around Australia have achieved Eco-Awards, and access a number of free resources to help your parish become “eco-champians.”
