Webinar: “Caring for Creation by Divesting from Fossil Fuels and Reinvesting in Climate Solutions”
Pope Francis was clear in Laudato Si, saying that “technology based on the use of highly polluting fossil fuels needs to be progressively replaced without delay” (LS 165), and the Catholic Bishops from all continents followed up this directive by calling for “an end to the fossil fuel era… providing affordable, reliable and safe renewable energy access for all”.
As a response to these mandates, the Global Catholic Climate Movement recently launched a Catholic Divest-Reinvest program and working group to encourage Catholic institutions to divest from fossil fuel companies and invest only on socially and ethically responsible companies that do not cause harm to people and the environment. After the first Catholic joint divestment announcement of June, many more Catholic organizations will join the next joint announcement on October 4th, Feast of St Francis of Assisi.
All GCCM member organizations and other Catholic institutions are invited to learn more about fossil fuel divestment in this webinar co-convened with GreenFaith. These divestment efforts are part of a broader effort to celebrate the ecumenical Season of Creation.
