Archbishop Costelloe’s Lenten Message 2015

Jesus’ first words are “repent and believe the good news” (Mark 1:15)

Each life is unique so our responses to Jesus’ invitation will all look different

Although created for love, we are all fragile and can often be self-centred

Call to repent means setting out in a new direction towards Jesus

Our faith is first an encounter with Jesus, and growing in relationship with him

“Love one another” through the gift of the Holy Spirit (John 15:12, 14:15-16)

Through prayer and the words of the Gospel let’s meet with Jesus daily

Jesus offers us friendship; let’s not be found to be too busy

Fasting, sacrifice and giving-up pleasures can free us from self-centredness

Through genuine almsgiving we reach the poor, lonely, broken and lost

Making our home in Jesus as he makes his in us enables our dreams to emerge
